What is citicoline and what properties does it have?

Citicoline (collaborate-5'-diphosphocholine) also known as choline CDP, is an endogenous compound produced by the body. It occurs naturally in the nervous tissue, where it performs neuroprotective functions. Citicoline is also a precursor for phosphatidylcholine - the basic building block of phospholipids in cell membranes, as well as for one of the body's most important neurotransmitters - acetylcholine.
